Google, in an elbow-to-jaw scuffle with Microsoft to provide IT services to government agencies across the nation, said Monday that it is the first company to receive a key government approval that opens the door to provide Internet-based "cloud computing" services like email to much of the federal government - and perhaps the city of San Jose.
